Next Meeting Tuesday August 16th @ 7pm
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday August 16th at 7pm, our guest speaker will Shawn Skaggs of the FAA San Jose Office, he is the FAASTeam Program Manager Wester Region. Despite the “official” FAA description his talk will be broader than just LSA and encompass Experimental AC too.
The title of his presentation is “Light Sport Aircraft Operation and Maintenance” – although his talk is much broader than the title suggests. Please see Shawn’s comments below:
• The reason this topic was selected is because it is a national outreach effort targeted to the EAA membership. FAASTeam management determined this could be beneficial on a national level to expose the membership to this information. It is actually geared toward the experimental users because many in this user group have moved to the Light Sport arena and there has not been much outreach on the part of the FAA to help users make this move except to publish the rule.
• There is a section that addresses operational considerations, (things pilots can do) that is applicable to any aircraft operation, and is one of the focus areas of this effort.
• There is also content specifically on experimental light sport, which is basically the same for any amateur built aircraft, so this presentation will address much of your request.
• I will also participate in an expanded Q&A on any Flight Standards topic I can answer related to experimental aircraft that the membership would like to ask.
• I think all will find something of value in the content, as long as everyone accepts the information without an assumption that it doesn’t apply to me because it is about Light Sport operations only. It’s about operating an aircraft; safely, and going home after the flight.
